INDIGO

INDIGO

The INDIGO project studies the impact of digitalization on the implementation of policies in Europe through joint information systems and the use of advanced machine learning systems. The status quo of the exploitation of AI systems in rule-making and decision-making procedures by European and national public authorities is explored. The key research interest is the impact on constitutional values and fundamental European principles of the usage of such innovative information technologies in public administration.

The project of five research institutions from four countries involves an interdisciplinary approach bringing together not only leading legal experts on EU law but also experts in technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

The INDIGO team will therefore build new pathways to ensure that digitalization, automatization, and joint information systems exploitation by public administrations are coherent with the rule of law, democracy, and transparency, as well as not only increasing efficiency but also respecting the protection of fundamental rights and administrative process principles.
